Workshops: Mindfulness & Meditation
Oct 22 @ 12:15 pm – 12:45 pm

perceive http://0fa.108.myftpupload.com/55349-female-viagra-uk.html Meditation is the process of moving from the busyness of our external environment to a place of inner quietude. In this way, meditation is simple—but frequently it doesn't feel easy. Our lives are full, and our commitments to others are significant. Most of us have little experience going inward and few tools to do so systematically.

Each Tuesday we take a moment out of our day to find a comfortable posture, calm the breath, relax deeply, and awaken to effortless attention. We'll develop an effective practice to make common hurdles less troublesome and bring forward the fruits of meditation: reduced stress, improved sleep, an enhanced sense of well-being, and greater access to intuition and creative states.

These free weekly drop-in sessions are appropriate for all levels of practitioners. Please join us, and then continue your contemplative practice by visiting our exhibitions. No special clothing or previous experience are required.

Talk and demonstration: Meet the Kung Fu Nuns
Oct 27 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

A movement is stirring in the Himalayas. As the region faces modernization, a group of young nuns from the Drukpa lineage of Buddhism have adopted kung fu as a way to build strength while championing gender equality. Breaking a centuries-long social order that favors men in leadership, these nuns exemplify kindness in its fiercest form by empowering communities to serve others.

The nuns began learning kung fu as a way to promote self-defense to the young girls in their communities, where violence against women is rarely reported. They now regularly host self-defense trainings near their nunneries and on their travels, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators to their performances. Today, there are more than seven hundred Drukpa nuns, with a long waiting list of women and girls wishing to join their ranks. The Kung Fu Nuns received the 2019 Asia Society’s Asian Game Changers Award.

Join us to see a special kung fu demonstration and listen to the nuns describe their personal journeys.
